The Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy on Monday, April 13, for 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet while in her stroller in Bushwick on April 1, according to the National Action Network. The civil rights organization, which Sharpton founded and leads as president, announced the homegoing service in a statement.
The service is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, located at 574 Madison Avenue in Brooklyn, between Lewis and Stuyvesant avenues, the organization said. Sharpton will join the infant’s family and community members in mourning at the church, according to the announcement.
The infant was struck during a midday gang-related drive-by shooting in which suspects on a moped opened fire in a residential area, the National Action Network said. The organization said she was in her stroller at the time and that two suspects were later arrested following a moped crash in the area.
The organization said the death has sent shockwaves through Brooklyn and across the city and has reignited calls for an end to gun violence affecting children. According to the statement, Sharpton stands with the family and with every family that has had to bury a child taken by gun violence.
The National Action Network said it is calling on elected officials, law enforcement and community leaders to recommit to the safety of children and their communities.
