The activist performance group Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping says it mounted a protest against JPMorgan Chase over the bank’s investments in what the group calls the “climate apocalypse,” targeting Chase’s world headquarters on Park Avenue in Manhattan.
According to the group, roughly 50 protesters took part, gathering first at a Quaker meetinghouse before moving to the bank’s headquarters. The account was distributed in an email from the group, led by the activist who performs as Reverend Billy, under the subject line “2026, launching into what?”
The group has long staged street-theater demonstrations against corporations it accuses of financing fossil fuel expansion, and it framed the Chase action as part of that campaign. The email did not specify a date or time for the demonstration, and the description of the turnout and the bank’s conduct reflects the group’s own account rather than independent confirmation.
JPMorgan Chase, the largest U.S. bank, was not quoted in the group’s email and the message included no response from the company. The group did not provide further detail on the demonstration in the material reviewed.
