Met Council CEO David Greenfield hosted a public conversation on the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence on Sunday, March 8, 2026, joined by state Sen. Andrew Gounardes and Assembly Member Alex Bores, according to the anti-poverty organization, which announced the event in a press advisory.

The discussion, held at 2 p.m. at Verci, 45 East 20th Street, 12th floor in Manhattan, examined how AI could affect New Yorkers, Met Council said. The organization said the conversation focused on workforce impacts, fraud and security concerns for vulnerable populations, and ways the technology could expand nonprofit capacity and help alleviate poverty.

The panel also reviewed the New York RAISE Act, which Met Council billed as first-in-the-nation legislation, though New York was in fact the second state to enact a frontier-AI safety law, after California’s SB 53. The organization said the law requires safety plans, incident reporting and state oversight focused on frontier AI systems; the measure, which Gov. Kathy Hochul signed on Dec. 19, 2025, builds on California’s framework and requires large AI developers to report incidents to the state within 72 hours and creates an oversight office inside the Department of Financial Services. The legislation was sponsored by Gounardes and Bores, Met Council said.

The event was sold out, and the organization said press were required to RSVP to attend.
