Macy’s 4th of July fireworks are bigger this year. The show hits its 50th edition as the United States turns 250. Organizers expanded launches to three simultaneous sites and are calling it the largest show in the event’s history, according to a guide published by Daily Sun New York. On July 4 at 9:15 p.m., fireworks launch from the Brooklyn Bridge, the Lower East River, and the Lower Hudson River for roughly 25 minutes.
Bushwick readers who want to watch from Brooklyn without buying a ticket can go to Domino Park in Williamsburg. The waterfront park at 15 River St. has a direct view of the Manhattan skyline and the East River launches and is free to enter. The Daily Sun New York guide advises arriving early because crowds are expected to be heavy.
The closest land-based paid viewing, per the guide, is the South Street Seaport area, which sits directly across from the Brooklyn Bridge and four launch barges. Pier 16 at 12 Fulton St. is running a zone-ticketed event called “Red, White and Views” through the South Street Seaport Museum, open to all ages, with tickets ranging from $100 to $600 per person and food available separately at Cobble Fish. Next door, Pier 17’s rooftop at 89 South St. is hosting a four-course seated dinner through The Fulton by Jean-Georges for $385 and up.
The Standard, High Line’s rooftop bar Le Bain at 848 Washington St. sits directly across from one of the Hudson River launch barges this year. The venue is running an all-day party with Zillion and Friends performing. Pricing is listed through the venue’s official site and RESY.
Five observation decks are running ticketed events. The guide notes that fireworks views from rooftop decks are not guaranteed and depend on weather conditions. EDGE at 30 Hudson Yards is restricted to guests 21 and older and features a live DJ and seven immersive installations starting at $230. Top of the Rock at 30 Rockefeller Plaza packages drinks and a hot dog with the 70th-floor view, starting at $250 for adults and $95 for kids, with children’s activities on site. SUMMIT One Vanderbilt at 45 E. 42nd St. runs $250 for adults and $160 for kids and includes live music, 3D fireworks glasses, and access to the 1,100-foot mirrored installation. One World Observatory at 117 West St. starts at $129 for adults, with dining and a limited-run Independence Day cocktail menu available inside. The Empire State Building’s 86th-floor outdoor deck event runs $580 per person and includes food and an open bar on the 80th floor before guests move upstairs to watch.
Three New Jersey spots offer free viewing across the Hudson. Liberty State Park at 1 Audrey Zapp Dr. in Jersey City has a wide lawn with the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in the foreground and Hudson River fireworks overhead. Jersey City is also launching its own independent fireworks show around 9:30 p.m. Exchange Place at Hudson St. and Montgomery St. in Jersey City, accessible directly from the PATH train, is hosting a festival with more than 100 food trucks alongside the fireworks view. Pier A Park at 1 Sinatra Dr. in Hoboken includes a splash park, and the site is walkable from both the PATH and NJ Transit’s Hoboken station. The Daily Sun New York guide notes one limitation for all three NJ locations: the Hudson River fireworks are clearly visible from New Jersey, but the Brooklyn Bridge and East River fireworks may be partially blocked by Manhattan’s skyscrapers from that vantage point.
Cruise operators run boats near the launch barges. Hornblower Infinity departs from Pier 15. City Cruises runs from Pier 15, Pier 61, and Weehawken, NJ. Seastreak Ferry leaves from Belford and Highlands, NJ. Circle Line departs from Pier 83. The guide notes that cruise prices fluctuate with availability and recommends booking as soon as possible.
