The Center for Community Media at CUNY’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism invited community and ethnic media publishers, journalists and broadcasters to a forum on January 28, 2026, to discuss how Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s then-new administration was engaging with their sector in its first month in office, according to the center.

The gathering, billed as an NYC Community Media Cafecito Conversation, was scheduled to run from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Room 308 of the school at 219 West 40th St. in Manhattan. The center said it would be an off-the-record, facilitated session intended to give participants a space to share experiences and exchange ideas on collective strategies for the sector’s shared challenges.

According to the center, the conversation would focus on four areas: overall engagement with the new administration so far; questions about the Mayor’s Office of Ethnic and Community Media and its new position within the newly established Office of Mass Engagement; press credentials; and ways to collectively address administration-related challenges. The center said the office had been moved into the engagement-focused office under the new administration, part of a restructuring Mamdani set in motion early in his term. The center said the session would surface participants’ expectations, observations, feedback and concerns about the Mamdani administration’s engagement and media-related policies one month in.

The center said light refreshments would be served and asked attendees to RSVP in advance.
