City Harvest said it will expand support for Brooklyn’s community food programs by distributing commercial kitchen equipment and dining furniture to partner food pantries and soup kitchens, drawing on a donation from JPMorganChase that the organization valued at more than $250,000.

In a Feb. 18 announcement, City Harvest, which describes itself as New York City’s first and largest food rescue organization, said the donation includes more than 150 pieces of commercial kitchen equipment and dining furniture. The organization said the goods will help it and 37 or more community organizations reach more New Yorkers in need across the five boroughs.

The organization said the equipment will allow its partner food pantries, soup kitchens and community groups to expand their capacity to address food insecurity and better serve residents. Brooklyn partners receiving the donations include the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC), according to City Harvest.

City Harvest framed the effort as a borough-specific push, saying the kitchen and dining essentials are meant to enhance local organizations’ ability to serve Brooklyn residents. The announcement was distributed by the communications firm BerlinRosen, which listed [email protected] as the press contact and said photos and video of the donation were available to reporters.
