CitizensNYC joined corporate volunteers for community garden service days at two New York City sites: Tompkins Square Park in the East Village and Electric Ladybug Garden in Central Harlem, according to the organization’s June newsletter.

At Tompkins Square Park, CitizensNYC teamed up with Morgan Stanley and Friends of Tompkins Square Park to plant a small gated pollinator pocket garden. The organization described the workday as hot but joyful.

In Central Harlem, CitizensNYC and Goldman Sachs volunteers spent the day at Electric Ladybug Garden building planters, rescuing strawberries, and painting garden signs in support of the neighborhood-run space.

Electric Ladybug Garden sits one block from Central Park and is operated entirely by neighborhood volunteers. According to the newsletter, the space was once an overgrown abandoned lot that those volunteers converted into a working garden with individual grow beds, a pagoda, a performance stage, and open gathering space.

The garden now hosts educational programming, community gardening events, a jazz series, and an annual children’s Halloween party, according to CitizensNYC.
