King Noodle, a tiki restaurant specializing in noodles and other Southeast Asian dishes has officially closed, according to an Instagram post from May 20th. The post shows a cartoon pig wearing a gas mask with “That’s all folks,” and the caption reads, “BEEN REAL.” The restaurant’s bio now reads “King Noodle was a restaurant in Brooklyn.”
Located at 1045 Flushing Avenue near the Morgan L stop and not far from neighborhood favorites Tina’s, Roberta’s and Bunna Cafe, King Noodle offered an affordable menu and a notable bar scene in a festive space suitable for dancing. Highlights of a visit in April included pea shoots with fish sauce and a squash curry with flat wide noodles. The owners did not respond to inquiries from Bushwick Daily while over 40 commenters on Instagram expressed disappointment at the sudden closing, wondering where they would celebrate future birthdays and praising dishes like the lemongrass chicken wings.
The space is currently closed up with no signage or notice of eviction, though their website and Instagram are still up. King Noodle was open late and drew crowds for scorpion bowls, handmade noodles and special fish dishes like whole fried porgy, which changed often. Their chili lime peanuts will be missed. King Noodles opened in summer 2013 and was featured in the New York Times in 2014. Part of a Bushwick Crawl feature, the Times described the dining room’s style, “The electric, gaudy décor like the ceiling disco ball and neon lights at King Noodle may make you question whether you’ve wandered into a nightclub.” Founded by two former Roberta’s chefs, the restaurant often featured friends as guest chefs and hosted events at local bars including Pearl’s. King Noodle had a good run and we’re anxious to see what the owners will do next and what will happen to the space.
