A small memorial has come together in the wake of a fatal police-involved shooting of Sergio Reyes, a Bushwick teen who allegedly stole beer from the Garden Deli at 185 Starr St.

Police arrived on the scene to find Reyes a few buildings away. They report that Reyes pointed a weapon at them and was shot multiple times. In that same report, they noted that the weapon in question was an “imitation pistol.”

Reyes’s mother, Patricia Reyes, told DNAinfo that her son sustained gunshot wounds to his chest.

The city Medical Examiner’s office found Reyes was shot 14 times and sustained injuries to his torso, limbs, heart, lungs, aorta, spinal cord, liver, stomach and bones. The death was ruled a homicide.

Police would not confirm details obtained from the Medical Examiner’s office and noted that the investigation was still ongoing in an email to Bushwick Daily.

Reyes’ funeral service happens on Wednesday Feb. 22 from 4 – 9 p.m. at Ortiz Funeral Home located at 201 Havemeyer St. in Williamsburg.
