10 Major Bushwick Events Everyone Should Attend This Fall!

Check out the . are already being sold, so don’t wait up and make sure we see you at the red carpet event! Independent English art fair Sluice (which was successfully attended by a  in the past) together with Bushwick art spaces and have teamed up to create Exchange Rates, a series of exhibitions in Bushwick. As they say on their : “Some exhibits will be integrated, some collaborative yet autonomous, some even spontaneous or virtual. The rates of exchange, as such, will fluctuate, while the currencies of exchange—ideas and culture—remain fixed.”

People often say that fall is bitter sweet. But since I (and many of you, Bushbabies) am done schooling, I officially suggest to scrap “bitter” and just keep “sweet.” No more starting off again, no more mean girls, no more studying for exams–just studying for pleasure! How fantastic! And you know what else is fantastic? Bushwick events in the fall! There is SO much going on! September and October will surely turn us all into social butterflies. Over 100 works from artists based in Bushwick, Bed-Stuy and beyond will be on display at a big group show curated by Brooklyn Museum. Definitely worth the trip and support of our local artists.

#4 The Total Bushwick Immersion @ Various venues (September 13, 1-7PM, $20)

Our fabulous friends at Brooklyn Based, are bringing you the second year of The Total Bushwick Immersion. So what does it mean to get totally immersed with Bushwick? Well, first of all $20 will give you a bunch of WAM (aka walking around money). WAM buys you food and Brooklyn Brewery beers (think a lot of it) in a bunch of bars around the Jefferson L train stop (aka Jefftown), and it gives you plenty of deals in other Bushwick businesses. Chris Carr, Creative Director and Event Organizer of party collective Brooklyn Wildlife has outdone himself by putting up yet another Summer Festival. Happening right now, Brooklyn Wildlife Summer Festival is “an annual diverse and synergistic, indoor and outdoor festival featuring some of the best Independent talent from New York and beyond. The goal of the event is to galvanize the Indie arts and music community and represent its flourishing cultural growth within Brooklyn, with a special focus on Bushwick. BWSF2014 caters to a new youth culture that is multi-faceted, variegated, ethnically ambiguous and racially interwoven. #6 Shwick Market @ 286 Meserole Street, Brooklyn (Every Saturday & Sunday from October 11-December 28, $free)

Shwick Market brought to you by Christopher and Jinyen Carew  of The Chalkboard Tee came to the neighborhood with a big bang of thousands of flyers and posters promising something special. Now that they have announced their postponed kick off date and a location and their first approved vendors, Shwick is looking like more and more fun. Shwick is not afraid to think big. They have announced a huge street art show featuring 50 street artists called Art Hustle for October 2, and even a newsletter for Bushwick featuring their vendors in 20,000 copies. Whoa!

#7 Ridgewood Market @ Gottscheer Hall (September 21, 11AM-5PM, $free)

If you can’t wait until Shwick arrives in October, we recommend you go check out Ridgewood Market on Sunday, September 21. Expect over 40 independent and local artisan vendors, food, pastries,  boozy brunch, live music and …perhaps these guys will have their own reality show too! This is a kid & date friendly event, so bring ’em!
