#8 DISCO ERA NIGHTZ @ Bizarre 12 Jefferson St (SUN 7PM, $FREE)

Join Meryl Meisler and Bushwick Daily for DISCO ERA NIGHTZ- a celebration of two groundbreaking Bushwick Books and closing party for the acclaimed exhibition “A Tale of Two Cities: Disco Era Bushwick.” Meryl Meisler will give a presentation about her photography influences, the Black Out of 1977 hitting Bushwick, and the spark that generated juxtaposing images of Bushwick with Studio 54 and the hottest clubs of Disco’s golden era. Three amazing writers, Prospero Vega, Dallas Athent, & one surprise writer, will read from Bushwick Daily’s book of short stories “Bushwick Nightz” to share stories from the hood.

#5 Escort Service presents “Civic Duty” Live @ Bossa Nova Civic Club 1271 Myrtle Ave (FRI 7pm, $?)

After a health department scare last week involving minor vermin, Bossa Nova is back! Join them for the fourth edition of “Civic Duty”, a three hour block of house, techno, and dark club music- featuring Alexander Trust, 2n3904, and Ana Lola Roman.

#4 CBGB FESTIVAL @ Various Venues (THURS-SUN, $Varies)

CBGB festival quietly showed up after a late announce, but hey, that’s ok! Better late than never! They’ve got tons of small scale shows at Piano’s and Cake Shop  with local bands like High Waisted, Ponyhof, Fort Lean, Boytoy, and almost 50 others, plus performances from bigtimers Billy Idol & more! If you’re able to handle the madness of Times Square, Sunday’s free performance with  Jane’s Addiction,  Devo, Surfer Blood + more will be epic.

#3 JANGULA // GUNFIGHT! // VEDA RAYS // THE YIN YANGS @ Palisades 906 Broadway (SAT 8pm, $7)

It’s always a good time with Jangula, resident Brooklyn Gutter Rockers, who perform shirtless and feature a Q-chord. Plus, the show is all ages so any underage groupie is welcome this Saturday at Palisades.

#2 By The October Spooklight: Human Behavior + Darksiders + Vagabon + Early Riser @ Silent Barn 603 Bushwick Ave (SUN 8pm, $7)

On a “spookfolk sunday” join 4 rad bands that totter the folk/experimental line for some “big soul shivers “.



#1 Escape Festival @ Governor’s Island (SAT-SUN, $109 Weekend Pass)

Escape Festival’s switch to Governor’s Island means only good things for this beach party, whose lineup includes Moby, Yeasayer, Boris, Ra Ra Riot, The Joy Formidable, and more on 2 stages from 1pm-12am each day! Get your ass over to the free ferry from the Battery Maritime Building at South Street for a one-day adventure ($60) or the whole weekend ($109).
