Astrology has seemingly become a staple to many millennials’ lives, and Bushwick is home to a burgeoning community of astrologers who write horoscopes for various publications and provide readings around North Brooklyn. Here’s a rundown of some of the stargazers who live in the area, because even if you can’t see the stars in New York City, it doesn’t mean they’re not there.

Chase is a Bushwick resident who has a private astrological practice based in the neighborhood.

Q: How long have you been working as an astrologer?

A: I have always loved astrology and my private practice has been open since 2015.

A: Im super grateful to my mentor Adam Sommer and also am certified through the NCGR-Professional Astrologers Alliance. My work with astrology offers a lens that describes an individual’s needs for health and balance – as everyone is completely unique, astrology accurately deciphers and provides practical ways to feel connected to your own essence.

Q: What can people expect from a reading with you?

A: In a reading, we identify the tools, strengths and areas of growth that are occurring within one’s life. This can be a type of growth that is consistent throughout life, as well as recognizing what areas of life are currently requiring attention. My style is casual and deep, and can feel much like chatting with a confidante.

Q: What do like about being an astrologer in Bushwick?

A: Working in Bushwick is amazing as I get to meet people from all walks of life. I enjoy how spacious the streets and skyline are from my studio. I have lived in the same two-block radius on and off for the past seven years and I love it!

Q: Where can people find you and what is best to schedule a reading for?

A: I love reading birth charts, which is reading about one’s general disposition (mind, body, spirit) and life experience, though I also love reading for the year ahead which can help one work to maximize on opportunities and to understand the timeline of the year.

2. LISA STARDUST

Lisa Stardust lives in Williamsburg and she writes horoscopes for Teen Vogue, Bust, The Hood Witch, and more.

Q: How long have you been reading people’s charts?

A: I have been reading charts since I was a teenager. I have been an astrologer for over 10 years—a full time professional astrologer for three years.

Q: What can people expect to experience/gain from a reading with you?

A: I give people the option as to what kind of reading they would like (horary or a natal chart reading).

A: I also ask my clients what their “burning question” is and I what’s going on in their lives at the moment. Giving people the option and choice to explain what type of reading and what they expect to find out is a great use of time and also allows the clients to get out of their shell (to tell me the low-down and what they would like to know). I also allow for a few follow-up questions via text or email, if they think of a question they forgot about, but remember later. I am very direct and honest with my readings—and interpret the situation and chart with no judgement. An astrologer always has to have compassion and be impartial in order to give cosmic clarity to the client.

Q: What do you like most about North Brooklyn?

A: I love the energy, the feel, and the vibrancy of the neighborhood. Williamsburg and Bushwick are places where people can be themselves all the time and assert their individuality. I love that!

3. Lexi Ferguson

Lexi lives in Bushwick and is an astrologist who writes horoscopes for Vice.

Q: How long have you been reading people’s charts for?

A: I’ve been doing astrology readings for people for two and a half years, and before that I’ve studied and read tarot for 14 years.

Q: What can people expect to experience/gain from a reading with you?

A: As with my tarot, I focus on ways to empower people to proceed in their own lives with perspective and confidence. If someone asks a question and I tell them “yes” or “no” it doesn’t typically change their pre-existing course of action. It may seem more prophetic, but it’s much less useful. If I help them examine the hopes and motivations underlying their concerns, then we can change the course they’re on and give them a sense of agency.

Q: What do you like most about living and working in Brooklyn?

A: I have so many answers to that, but the most pertinent is, I wouldn’t be an astrologer if it weren’t for North Brooklyn! I wouldn’t have been exposed to Annabel Gat, my teacher and now my colleague at Vice where I write horoscopes. And in general, while I adore traveling, I wouldn’t have the freedom or flexibility at other places to live my life freely as a queer trans person or longtime professional DJ and occultist.

4. Annabel Gat

Annabel Gat lives in Greenpoint and writes monthly horoscopes for Vice and her book, The Astrology of Love & Sex is coming out in July, 2019. She’s not currently taking new clients.

Q: How long have you been reading people’s charts for?

A: Astrology has been a lifelong passion of mine, but I opened my consulting practice in 2009.

Q:  What can people expect to experience/gain from a reading with you?

A: During a typical consultation, we’ll look at the client’s natal chart, the current transits, their progressions, and we might also do horary astrology or tarot, and we’ll discuss the archetypes that present themselves in the session, with the goal being that the client has a greater sense of self knowledge by the end of the session!

Q: What do you like most about living and working in Brooklyn/Bushwick?

A; I’m a born and raised New Yorker, so it goes without saying that I absolutely love this city! I love the food, I love the parties, I love the people, I love the Brooklyn waterfront, I love going on a long walk and running into friends and popping into stores — what’s not to love about Brooklyn? Especially Bushwick, which is filled with awesome art.

Shakirah Tabourn offers astrology meet-ups around Bushwick. On the first Saturday of every month she hosts a meet-up called Deep Seekers at the Earth Arts Center. She founded a quarterly astrology and culture magazine called NFLUX Mag, which will hold an event at metaDEN for Summer Solstice.

Q: How long have you been reading people’s charts?

A: I’ve been reading charts since 2013 and charging since 2015. I spent years reading hundreds of charts for anyone and everyone who was willing, in order to gain more knowledge and experience.

Q: What can people expect to experience/gain from a reading with you?

A: People can expect to feel seen and understood with a reading from me. I make sure that my clients’ feelings and fears are seen as valid and take time to explain why via the birth chart. Timing is a big part of my readings as well. If a client is looking for validation on their personal timing, such as if it’s the right time to leave a job, when they’ll enter their next relationship, if it’s time to go back to school, or if there’s an end to their recent bout of depression and loneliness, I can provide timing context which helps alleviate uncertainty. Astrology is so much about auspicious timing and a reading with me can affirm that you’re on the right path.

Q: What did/do you like most about living and working in Brooklyn/Bushwick?

A: When I was in college at SVA, there was a huge community of students who lived in Bushwick, especially photography majors. I moved into the neighborhood in 2011 and quickly found a sense of community. I couldn’t go out to certain bars without seeing people I knew, and that was something I found comforting and homey. When I began to explore more of my spiritual side, I quickly found community in Brooklyn, and it remains the stronghold of my in-person community of mystics and seekers. From my yoga studio, Daya Yoga, to Maha Rose, Meta.Den, AP Cafe, and Earth Arts Center, I’ve been able to find nurturance in these places throughout the neighborhood. The ability to gather in person is so powerful and important, and I am beyond thankful for the opportunities to do so in Brooklyn.

6. Daniela Rupert

Daniela lives in Bushwick and hosts the Bushwick Astrology Club at Daya Yoga Studio, which takes place once a month. The next meeting is on June 8, 2019. She also offers medical astrology readings online and in person from Bushwick’s NY Studio Factory.

Q: How long have you practiced astrology for?

A: I’ve been practicing astrology professionally for  maybe one year; as a hobby for 2-3 years and learning about it for 10 years.

Q: What can people expect from a reading with you?

A: There are many ways to read a natal chart and also from many different cultures as well. As a holistic medical practitioner, my definition of “being healthy” it doesn’t mean to “not get sick,” but to understand that we have an emotional, mental, and spiritual body and they all work together and need nourishment, therefore, whenever you get sick, it is no longer a negative aspect of the self, nor an “imbalance,” but a natural bodily process that is meant to be understood.

Healing to me, is having the courage to change, to grow, with the purpose of evolving. When I give a reading to somebody, my purpose is to help them understand themselves better. And when you understand yourself, you stop judging, there is no longer “right or wrong,” and when you stop judging yourself, you allow yourself to be. People also get to know their hardest challenges and the tools to overcome them. I also tell them about their constitution, if they have karmic (genetic) weaknesses, and disease predisposition; as well as, what food is best for them. We also talk about family relationships.

Q: Favorite part of Astrology?

A: Astrology can give so much. And besides its accuracy, it is an art that always surprises me. Every time I give a reading I learn something new, I amaze myself of its accuracy and its infinite potential. I learn a new pattern within the human psyche, and I love how it intertwines with the macrocosm.  Thanks to astrology I can provide a service to humanity that focuses in understanding who we are and what are we doing here. That to me is the path to inner peace.”

Perhaps the stars will align and you will get a chance to have your natal chart read by some of Bushwick’s best.
