A couple of weeks ago, we asked you, our readers, to nominate your favorite taco places in the neighborhood. In total, 17 restaurants were nominated. Well, that makes sense, considering Bushwick has the best tacos in Brooklyn!
Your nominations covered it all. Nearly every type of taco was represented, including those that are served on plates and those that are handed to you through the window of a truck!
Last week, we asked you to vote. And, Bushwick, you didn’t disappoint. Altogether, nearly 1,200 of you cast a vote. And for that, we thank you.
The runners up . . .
The bronze medal, with 198 total votes, goes to BK Taco Factory at 195 Stanhope St.! This Bushwick taco staple, known for also serving tasty vegan and vegetarian options, does not short the servings. Whatever taco you choose to go with, you can expect to receive it loaded up with delicious fillings. Oh, and don’t leave without trying a spicy margarita or sangria.
Coming in at second place, with 256 votes, is Plaza Ortega at 140 Stanhope St.! Plaza Ortega is a family-owned Mexican grocery store serving up impressive tacos. (Don’t skip out on the birria tacos, with consommé of course.) At Plaza Ortega, tacos are #1. But, the store offers so much more. A brief scan through its Instagram page will show you its vast array of items, including many tasty Mexican deserts.
And . . . drum roll please . . .
The winner of the 2021 Best of Bushwick best tacos competition goes to none other than Peter’s Crunchy Red Tacos, a taco truck parked at 2 Wyckoff Ave. This newcomer to the Bushwick taco scene racked up an impressive 389 votes! Both a mid-day and late-night staple in the heart of Bushwick, Peter’s specializes in tender, juicy birria tacos with an original formula straight out of Tijuana, Mexico.
“This means so much to us, considering we opened up about 10 months ago during the winter of the pandemic,” Peter’s shared with Bushwick Daily. “With times being hard due to new restrictions, finding employees, the virus being around and weather, we still managed to work things out. The first day, the people of Bushwick welcomed us into their community with arms wide open. Businesses, customers, friends, family — everyone who showed love is the reason why we stayed here in Bushwick to begin with.
“The vibe is beautiful. The people are beautiful. The environment around is lovely. Thank you for enjoying.”
