Demi-Monde is a new cafe that serves fresh vegetarian dishes, natural & organic wines, locally roasted coffee, and beers on tap. French for ‘half-world’, the term was used in 19th century France to describe those living on the edge of society.
Opened by four friends (two couples) who grew up in Texas and have known each other for over 20 years, Demi-Monde fills the area’s need for a casual yet elegant spot dedicated to quality food and drinks, while being inclusive to all kinds of residents.
During the day, the natural light filled space is great for dining or working, with multiple seating areas and a back lounge. Come evening time, the space converts to a wine bar with small plates for pairing and sharing. It is a versatile venue that’s simply decorated, has a rustic exposed brick wall, plants, and rotating artworks that come together to look chic but approachable.
Some popular dishes are the oyster mushroom and goat cheese sandwich; spinach and radicchio salad with roasted sweet potato, shiitake mushrooms, grapefruit and cashew; the burrata caprese; and the dragonfruit smoothie bowl. Our favorite was The Tropics smoothie – a combination of mango, banana, blood orange, pomegranate, lime, coconut water and lacinato kale.
There’s a great selection of brews from the likes of Bridge and Tunnel Brewery, KCBC, Brooklyn Cider House, and Coney Island Brewery. Demi- Monde’s coffee is also roasted in Bushwick by Superlost Coffee.
Demi-Monde has a great happy hour every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Natural wines and mimosas are only $8. All beers on tap are $5. The combination of the happy hour and the selection and location, makes Demi-Monde a prime location for after work drinks, a casual date, or brunch on the weekend.
Demi-Monde is now open until midnight every Thursday to Saturday, with additional late nights coming soon. Keep an eye on social media for upcoming events like art openings, pop up dinners, movie nights, DJs, and more.
