A Brooklyn-based coffee shop is opening a new location in Bushwick.

Cocoa Grinder, a franchise with several branches in Bay Ridge and one in Bed-Stuy, is opening at 313 Knickerbocker Ave. in mid-late May, Bushwick Daily has learned.

Abdul Elenani, who started Cocoa Grinder in 2013 during his college years, claims that the chain is “more than a coffee shop.” There’s a menu of all-day breakfast, burgers, protein shakes, and freshly-squeezed juices. Prices are competitive; most items can be had for $10 and under: Eggs Benedict ($10), brioche french toast ($9), and buttermilk pancakes ($6) are among the goodies.

Then there is the occasional side of healthy protest.

On April 3, a day which a threatening letter circulating in the UK promised would be “Punish a Muslim Day,” Elenani responded with a sign outside of a Cocoa Grinder, offering free coffee for all Muslims who said the shahada at the cafe.

The sign, which was photographed by passersby, was shared several hundred times on Facebook.

We’ll be back with a complete review of Cocoa Grinder when it opens next month. Stay tuned!
