Brooklyn Rebels, an activist action group created by a group of people who work and live in the greater Bushwick area, held its first meeting on Sunday, March 12 at Brooklyn Fire Proof.

The group discussed several key issues under attack by the current administration including health care, NEA support, the environment, gender equality, mid-term elections, and immigration with a goal of working together to create change and support the actions of other like-minded organizations in the process.

Following a vote, the group decided to create its first three action groups focused on 1) NEA arts support; 2) health advocacy; and 3) mid-term elections. They also developed an initial plan of action for each group that will be reported on during the next Brooklyn Rebels meeting on April 11.

At the close of the meeting, copies of the U.S. constitution were distributed and Bushwick’s Dr. Lisa Levy led the group in an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution—a grounding reminder of what we are all fighting for.
