“WEEKEND: DISPOSABLE” is brought to you by me, Sara Wass, a Bushwick-based photographer and self-proclaimed nightlife person. I’ve selected someone I consider a “weekend warrior” to document their antics for one weekend, in our neighborhood, with a disposable camera. The rules are simple: photos must be taken in the Bushwick region, and they must make us jealous.

Our first installment features Masha Koblyakova, a vinyl DJ, and host of a backyard nighttime party called “Kindergarten.” Masha hails from Moscow, and she is currently making a mark on the Brooklyn dance-music scene. This past Friday, I was one of the organizers of a party called Kindergarten, Pt. 9! We hosted Kindergarten in my backyard for the last eight times, and this was the first time we brought it to an actual venue, with two separate rooms (one for techno, one for chiller, disco vibes). I believe we were successful in bringing the same atmosphere to H0l0, a nightclub in Ridgewood, with our ninth edition of the party! I’m below on the right.

So many beautiful and fun people came out to Kindergarten! So many friends to catch up with, and so many new wonderful people to meet. At one point, I was surprised to see such a packed venue — it made me super excited. Below, you can see my good friend Beshken and Marco Weibel killing it with groovy sets in the front room. Everyone had A+ Friday outfits on, too. I was so excited to capture everyone on my disposable camera. Definitely had a lot of fun blinding everyone with my flash.

I just moved to my new apartment in February. It’s more toward East Williamsburg, and now I can finally get a good spot on the L train in the morning. The best way to start my Saturday was by spinning records for a few hours. Later on, my roommate, Bella, was getting ready to go out to a soiree, but I stayed in to prepare energy for Sunday.

One of my favorite record shops is Second Hand Records off Myrtle Ave. I was very excited to check out the new shop location. I was living in Berlin for the last six months, and it was my first time seeing the amazing red-neon environment filled with tropical plants and fresh tunes. Every Sunday, Fatik, who runs the shop, organizes Sunday sessions and invites DJs to come share their records. You can see Marco, who DJed my Kindergarten party, playing some fresh tunes there, too. having a non-stop weekend. Keep playing good grooves!
