Happy February! Our Top Shows This Weekend

The snow has (mostly) melted, the groundhog saw its shadow and Daylight Savings is almost a month away

The snow has (mostly) melted, the groundhog saw its shadow and Daylight Savings is almost a month away. We know you might be stuffing your face with apps this Super Bowl Sunday (thanks, Pinterest), but if you’re someone who really just watches the halftime show, we’ve got some live shows that may sound more intriguing. Get ready for the first weekend in February with Bushwick Daily’s top picks!

#10 The Skins and Phony Ppl @ Baby's All Right, 146 Broadway Williamsburg (Sun, 8PM, $10)

Half siblings, half friends - fusing rock, funk and soul. The Skins have supported sold-out tours for The Heavy, worked closely with Rick Rubin and have hit the festival circuit hard. OH and their ages range from 15-21 ... nbd.

#9 Brick + Mortar, What Moon Things and The Jack Moves @ Baby's All Right, 146 Broadway Williamsburg (Mon, 8PM, $10)

We get it. Mondays suck. So why not live in denial and stretch the weekend even further? Believe it or not, Brick + Mortar only consists of two people, despite their impressive range of sound. They're also known for their powerful live show - combining electronic production with a driving percussion.

#8 Show Me The Body, B L A C K I E, Moor Mother Goddess, Lee Bannon and Yung Gutted (DJ Sets) @ Market Hotel, 1140 Myrtle Avenue, Bushwick (Fri, 8PM, $10)

Market Hotel is back and better than ever. Still holding on to its DIY charm, the music venue now is 100% legal and also runs as a nonprofit during the day. The Queens-based trio Show Me The Body will be kicking off the weekend, so head over to Myrtle Broadway for some punk rock and drankz.

#7 Shearwater and Jib Kidder @ Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street, New York (Sat, 7:30PM, $SOLDOUT)

Ok, I know this is sold out but if you could possibly snag a ticket somehow, it'll 100% be worth it. Plus if you get lucky, face value is only $15. Do you like Pink Floyd? You'll love Shearwater. Fresh from their Jet Plane and Oxbow album release on Jan 22nd, the reviews are in - and it's arguably their best album yet.

#6 Oberhofer, Genesis P-Orridge and Edley ODowd of Psychic TV, LODRO and Cassie Ramone (DJ Set) @ Sunnyvale Brooklyn, 1031 Grand St. East Williamsburg (Sat, 8PM, $10)

Sunnyvale Brooklyn's grand opening!! This brand new bar / music venue is ready to introduce itself and this sick lineup definitely leads the hype. Set in an industrial area off of Grand Street, the venue apparently is quite large so get ready for a psychedelic dance party.

#5 Braven Ball - Braven's First Anniversary Black & White Masquerade @ House of YES, 2 Wyckoff Avenue, Bushwick (Thurs, 8PM, $FREE)

A Bushwick Daily favorite :) Known for their compelling brews, the guys behind Braven have something special planned for their first anniversary. Spend your Thursday night at this dance party, complete with Lady Circus burlesque dancers and silk rope aerialists (what!). Entry is FREE with RSVP! Black & white attire required :)

#4 Lotus and El Ten Eleven @ Terminal 5, 620 W 56th St. Hells Kitchen (Sat, 8PM, $25)

Lotus is great, but their live show is even greater. Not only do these guys incorporate an array of genres into each live set (ranging from rock to electronic), but they also leave room for improv. Not to mention they always puts on a crazy light show to match the high energy. Money well spent.

#3 Wilco - Kings Theatre One Year Anniversary Celebration @ Kings Theatre, 1027 Flatbush Ave. Flatbush (Fri & Sat, 8PM, $45-$75)

We have another anniversary this weekend! Kings Theatre, the historical Flatbush venue, is celebrating its one year since restoration. If you've never seen the jaw-dropping space, google image search right now. It's truly incredible. And what's better than Wilco for both Friday and Saturday nights?

#2 Lianne La Havas @ Rough Trade, 64 N 9th St. Williamsburg (Fri, 8PM $SOLDOUT)

This beautiful human. If you haven't heard Lianne La Havas, you are about to fall in love. Her latest album Blood, is a blend of soul and R&B with electronic subtleties. Unfortunately, the show is sold out, but it doesn't hurt to scour the internet on Friday just in case something opens up!

#1 Jamie Woon @ Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey Street New York (Fri, 8PM, $18)

Prepare for a Friday night of 90s' neo-soul and alt R&B! Jamie Woon, a London-based singer and producer is in New York to perform his latest album, which was very much inspired by D'Angelo's Voodoo. Originally Jamie Woon had more of an electronic sound, yet these soulful grooves are perceived just as well by critics and fans. This guy can do it all.
