Okiway's Replacement, Lua Bar, Is Already in the Works on Flushing Avenue — Food and Drink on Bushwick Daily

Okiway's Replacement, Lua Bar, Is Already in the Works on Flushing Avenue

That was fast.

Okiway closed its small Flushing Avenue restaurant with little fanfare in late March, and almost immediately brown kraft paper popped up in the windows to signal some kind of change.

Well, we didn't have to wait long for an answer. The teams behind The Emerson in Clinton Hill, Suzume in Williamsburg, and Beco in Williamsburg are teaming up to open Lua Bar in what was once Okiway's cozy space.

Henrique Stangorlini, one of the partners and Beco's owner, tells Bushwick Daily that Lua Bar, Suzume's "first sister restaurant," is scheduled to open in mid-June. He adds that "chefs are creating a menu of ramen and bar snacks that reflects our backgrounds in cooking and experience and focuses on genuine flavors, great ingredients, and fun eating."

The main people behind the developing the menu are executive chef J. Trent Harris (of Suzume) and chef de cuisine Manuel Salazer (a Momofuku alum).

In just a few short weeks, Bushwick will have doubled its ramen prospects. We're excited to see what this team cooks up!
