Costumed Pups Will Return to Irving Square Park for the Third Annual Howl-A-Ween

As if hanging out with a bunch of dogs wasn’t fun enough, Bushwick volunteer group Friends of Irving Square Park has planned a perfect pre-Halloween afternoon: on Saturday, October 22nd, the park is going to the dogs, with a festive costume contest and a full schedule of activities for local dogs and the people who love them.

Get your pup suited up in a cute look and head over to the park at noon to partake in the excitement, which is supported by a coalition of neighborhood organizations.

The costume contest will take place at 1 p.m., when judges will award prizes from Bushwick Bark to the wearers of the three most delightful costumes, and a group photo of all of the participants will be taken at 1:30 p.m.

Throughout the event, Local DJ Chris Kelly will be spinning 45s, and Sugar Mutts Rescue will hold an adoption event for pet-less humans who attend and realize they absolutely need a dog. Dawgs all Day will be on site providing dog licensing and face-painting (the latter is for human children).

There are also several canine wellness features planned for the afternoon: Bushwick’s “Neighborhood Vet,” Dr. Loose, will hold a Q&A for pet owners and offer discount rabies vaccines, and My Two Dogs will present a dog training demonstration, as will Victoria Wells, who will also present her dog reiki practice.

The event wraps up at 3 p.m., at which point most dogs will probably be totally tuckered out from the attention.

The event is free and open to the public—and you don’t need a dog to come enjoy the fun! RSVP on Facebook here.
