It’s Official: The L Is Shutting Down Between Manhattan & Brooklyn for A Year and a Half

On Monday morning, the New York Times broke the news that the MTA has reached a decision about how it’s going to close the L train: starting in January of 2019, the Canarsie tube under the East river will be fully off line for a year and a half.

The MTA had weighed options about how best to plan the repairs, holding many meetings with the L-dependent public to present the issues. The full closure was presented as a leading choice, along with a plan for partial closure that officials projected would last three years.

Stay tuned for additional details about what the shutdown will look like.
