If you happen to live off the Wilson Ave. L stop in Bushwick, you might want to make Routine part of your, er, routine. Opened at 631 Wilson Ave, Routine is already winning points with locals for its creative space, coffee, and delicious food.

With brick walls and hardwood floors, Routine may appear to look like any other Bushwick coffee shop, but upon closer inspection this shop off the Wilson L is doing things differently. Its walls are adorned with Brooklyn artist Rubin415‘s abstract art, giving the space a gallery-like feel (but a gallery where you can work and drink coffee).

All coffee served at Routine is from Brooklyn roaster Toby’s Estate. If you’re feeling more peckish, they have a great breakfast menu, including creative takes on the ubiquitous avocado toast (one with strawberry and basil and another with radish and Sriracha mayo). Just take a look at their delicious Instagram to make your mouth water.

Routine’s owner David Taylor (below), a former partner of The Cardinal in the East Village, design school grad, and now real estate agent at Corcoran, saw the need for a local coffee spot off the Wilson L and took matters into his own hands.

“I started to notice the push to buy in this area of Bushwick. Then quickly noticed how under served the area is for good food and coffee and decided to fix it,” says Taylor.

“Everything we serve is either made in house of comes from a local vender that makes it in house. We source from local farms for all of our produce and dairy,”  Taylor tells me. He’s also very proud to be one of Dun-Well Doughnuts few wholesale accounts.

They plan on rolling out lunch next week, then a full brunch after that. And since no independent coffee shop in Bushwick can serve just coffee, Routine has plans to serve beer and wine too. Welcome to the neighborhood!
