Longtime Local Literary Luminaries Will Showcase Work at Bushwick Written Arts Series BK Voices

East Wiliamsburg's favorite telephone booth-marked speakeasy will host a star-studded, iconic series.

This Saturday, August 27, Hell Phone, the aptly-named speakeasy behind a telephone booth in Ange Noir, will host a diverse lineup of writers and performers for BK Voices: A Poetry, Prose, Spoken Word Experience.

Saturday will be the inaugural edition BK Voices. The series promises to bring together performers who specialize in everything from spoken word to prose to comedy to music—a grab bag approach, which is great for audiences seeking discover new artists.

Organizers say events like these are important "because culture, the arts, great literary events are vital to Brooklyn and NYC."

Performers at this iteration of the event include Daniella De Jesus, a lifelong Bushwick resident, writer and actress who joined the cast of hit Netflix show "Orange is the New Black" as the character Zirconia, and local activist Emanuel Xavier.

Founded by former Village Voice columnist Mike Geffner, the series takes place every week in a different location. It will make another appearance at Hell Phone on November 12, but you'll be able to catch The Inspired Word series at The Parkside Lounge in Manhattan or Branded Saloon back in Brooklyn.

Tickets start at $8, and there is a one drink or food item minimum at the venue.
