This Saturday, April 30th, Bushwick’s Irving Square Park will be the venue for a newly inaugurated annual event organized to raise environmental awareness and provide resources for conscientious living to the Bushwick community.
The event, called Community Earth Day starts at 10am and runs until 4pm. Among the elements of the events planned for the day are stations at which Bushwick residents can recycle their old electronics, donate used clothing, compost food scraps and shred old paper documents.
There will also be information available about composting outside of the event and volunteering in the park, and organizers at the event will be gauging public interest in establishing an Irving Square Park farmer’s market.
Groups participating in the event include the Department of Sanitation, NYC Parks, Goodwill, NYC Health, NYC Environmental Protection, NYPD, Ecostation NY, BK ROT, and the LES Ecology Center, as well as the office of Council Member Rafael Espinal and Friends of Irving Square Park.
