A Free Concert at Maria Hernandez Will Showcase Music by Bushwick Teens

This Thursday night from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Maria Hernandez Park will be transformed into the site of Back to the Block, a concert and art evening organized by More Art, a nonprofit organization committed to helping connect professional artists with communities throughout New York. The two acts slated to perform are Bushwick’s own Ashcan Orchestra and Educated Little Monsters.

The Educated Little Monsters are a troupe of talented, local youngsters who do everything from dance to poetry to art. The group was founded in 2013 by Yazmin Colon and was recently featured on Vice’s Noisey. Pat Spadine’s Ashcan Orchestra combines experimental music and instruments with a rotating cast of guest performers. They’ve recently performed at Shea Stadium and the Living Gallery, among other local venues.

Bring a picnic basket full of snacks or dinner for a balmy evening of free tunes in the neighborhood.
