Behold Precious Metal, New Bar from the Pine Box Rock Shop Owners

East Williamsburg’s Pine Box Rock Shop has long been a neighborhood darling for many reasons, including its many personal touches (the ticket stub collection on display at the bar) its events (try finding standing room in there during its monthly Vegan Shop-Up), its snacks (the plantain empanadas), its good drinks and good service. As of this past weekend, patrons can experience many of those same charms at a new spot Pine Box owners Jeff and Heather Rush have opened in Bushwick: called Precious Metal, the new spot is a little more grown up, but just as accessible as its sister location.

Located at 143 Troutman Street between Evergreen and Central across the street from Castle Braid and around the corner from Archie’s Pizza a few blocks from the Central Ave stop on the M train, Precious Metal is in the former location of Body Actualized Center, but the Rushes tell Bushwick Daily that the design elements for the bar are a nod to a different previous tenant of the space: it was once a slaughterhouse.

With pressed tin and tiling adorning the walls, Edison bulbs illuminating the patrons and dark wood benches, the space’s well-considered decor was clearly designed by residents of Bushwick who have known the neighborhood well for more than a decade, long before the NY Times claimed it was over.

Heather tells Bushwick Daily that the concept for Precious Metal is organized around a cocktail-based menu paired with “a more esoteric beer list,” as opposed to Pine Box’s everyman’s menu. By summer, the owners hope that the space will feature a back garden and a food menu: They’ve built space for a kitchen, but are still looking for the right chef for the job (solid vegan credentials are a must for the gig).

If this past Saturday night’s soft open party is anything to judge by, Precious Metal is going to be a great neighborhood spot to hang at while drinking hard-to-find beers and meticulously crafted cocktails. Check it out soon— while you can still get a seat!

Starting this coming friday, Precious Metal will have regular hours, but has of press time they’re TBD, so stay tuned!

Precious Metal is located at 143 Troutman Street off of the Central Ave stop on the M train. Website and phone number are still in the works, but the bar can be followed on Facebook.
