A one-mile timed race through Bushwick on Sunday, September 27, will send all of its registration money to rebuilding the South Bushwick Church, the white clapboard church destroyed by a three-alarm fire on June 19, according to a flyer posted for the event.
The run starts at Maria Hernandez Park on Knickerbocker Avenue and goes off from 7:30 to 9 a.m., the flyer says. It is a closed-street race with no traffic, split into competitive and community waves, so you can run it for a time or just run it. The flyer describes the event as fully sanctioned, meaning the street closure has city approval. You register on the run’s registration page, which the flyer’s QR code opens; the flyer also prints the address www.mmmile.com.
Every dollar of registration goes to the church’s rebuilding effort, according to the flyer. The church is also collecting donations directly through its GoFundMe campaign, Help Rebuild South Bushwick Church After Devastating Fire!. The three-alarm fire that destroyed the South Bushwick Church broke out on June 19, 2026. The flyer does not list a fundraising goal or the amount raised so far.
The flyer also lists Irving Square Park, in the 11207 ZIP code, alongside the Maria Hernandez Park start line, though it does not spell out the full route between the two. Maria Hernandez Park, which runs along Knickerbocker Avenue between Starr and Suydam Streets, is the largest green space in central Bushwick.
