The NYPD has named Capt. Christopher Vincenti the new commanding officer of the 68th Precinct, which covers Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.
Vincenti succeeds Capt. John Dasaro, who was promoted to Deputy Inspector in April and is now leading the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights, Wingate, and Prospect Lefferts. Dasaro had commanded the 68th since December 2024 and was named the 2025 Person of the Year at the Bay Ridge Ragamuffin Parade before his promotion.
The 68th Precinct Community Council welcomed the appointment. “We are extremely excited about this as he was formerly assigned to our precinct as a lieutenant,” the council said, as reported by the Eagle.
Vincenti previously served as the special operations lieutenant in Bay Ridge, where he oversaw targeted enforcement initiatives and coordinated specialized deployments addressing violent crime and quality-of-life issues. Before the commanding officer role, he was executive officer of the 67th Precinct, where he managed daily operations, crime reduction strategies, and supervisory accountability.
“I am a dedicated law enforcement professional with more than two decades of service in the New York City Police Department and over twelve years of supervisory experience in Brooklyn South,” Vincenti said in a statement reported by the Eagle. “Throughout my career, I have remained committed to maintaining high professional standards, developing officers under my command, and ensuring that the principles of effective and constitutional policing guide every operation.”
Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny also welcomed the appointment. “Capt. Vincenti has a distinguished 20-year career and a strong understanding of crime reduction strategies and quality of life issues,” Brook-Krasny said. “We are blessed that he is not new to the command, having served as the special operations lieutenant a couple of years ago. I look forward to my continued partnership with the 68th Precinct and offer my strong support to Captain Vincenti as the new commanding officer.”
Vincenti described his approach in a statement to the Eagle: “I place a strong emphasis on supervision, discipline and the use of modern policing tools to evaluate performance and improve outcomes.”
