Watch Bushwick Artists Paint Pooch Portraits At This Sweet Animal Shelter Benefit at Better Than Jam

25 local artists will gather at Better Than Jam to paint portraits of adorable pups in real time at this charming, weird party benefitting Williamsburg's Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition.

A Very Serious Competition is coming to East Williamsburg's fanciful art supply shop Better Than Jam: stop by this Friday, August 26, to watch dozens of local artists capture the likenesses of sweet (and hopefully patient) dogs at a benefit for area organization the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition.

The Brooklyn Puppy Painting Takedown, which will start at 8 p.m. and run through 10 p.m. at 20 Grattan Street (between Morgan Avenue and Bogart Street off of the Morgan Avenue stop on the L train) is an informal, friendly competition between painters driven by the audience's taste: after the works of art are completed, they will be up for auction, and proceeds from the sales will go towards BARC's operating expenses.

In addition to the dogs on hand, there will be beer, as well as information about BARC's mission and work improving the lives of North Brooklyn's four legged denizens.

The party is organized by Matt Timms, the actor and filmmaker responsible for the series of amateur cooking competitions that has thus far included Chili, Tofu, Fondue, Cookie Grits, Lamb and Bacon "Takedowns," as well as the Brooklyn Beer Experiment and the Park Slope Pork Off.

There's additional space left for more artists to join the crew; interested parties can email Timms at chili take down at gmail dot com to be added to the lineup.

Happy bidding, Bushwick!
