Next Saturday, Bushwick’s Ethiopian restaurant Bunna Café will host an eclectic event celebrating traditional Ethiopian music, arts, and culture at LightSpace Studios, right across the street from their own location on Flushing Avenue.

The evening will begin with the Ethio-Jazz band stylings of Arki Sound, frequent performers at Bunna Café and throughout the city.

The event will focus around Azmari, a form of musical storytelling that organizer say “uses improvisation, dance, humor, and Ethiopian instruments to create a one-of-a-kind collective experience.” The headliners are known as FENDIKA. The name originates from a famous club in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, that has “kept its grasp on the traditional art and dance style in the face of Addis’ own gentrification.”

Stay late- for DANKIRA!, a dance party led by DJ Sabine Blaizin from OyaSound.

The FENDIKA event kicks off at 9pm on Saturday, September 3rd at LightSpace Studios at 1115 Flushing Ave.

Tickets are $20 and a cash-only food and drink bar will be catered all night by Bunna Café.
