A Stray Duck Tried to Get on the L Train at Jefferson This Morning
Police had to rescue it from the tracks before a train rolled into the station.
A duck managed to make its way down from the streets of Bushwick and onto the L train tracks at the Jefferson Street station earlier this morning, Gothamist reported.
Aaron Morrison, a writer for Mic, first captured video of the duck looking for a point of entry onto the subway. Presumably, it had forgotten its MTA card at home.
Then, Sarah Daniel, another concerned train rider told Gothamist that at around 10 a.m. there were people on the tracks and a train stopped just before the platform. It turns out cops had climbed down to save the bird from its ghastly fate.
Daniel says the whole procedure took about two minutes, and the resultant delays must have been so small that they didn't even warrant a mention on the NCYTSubway Twitter, which reports all train hiccups.
Of course, none of this answers the question of why a perfectly good duck would decide to go underground on such a sunny day. But we're happy to hear the animal survived the ordeal.
