Meet With the MTA Next Week to Talk About Traffic & Construction (Yikes) While the L Train Is Down

These meetings may help determine how you get between Manhattan and Bushwick in 2019 and beyond.

With the 18-month Canarsie tunnel closure less than two years away, the MTA and the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) need to figure out a way to transport the thousands of people who rely on the L train into Manhattan every day.

Over the next month, concerned residents will have four opportunities to offer alternative transportation solutions to representatives from the MTA and NYCDOT, because even though there have been plenty of public meetings and reports of setbacks already, the plan is to move ahead come January 2019.

MTA officials stressed in a press release that "each workshop will be structured to allow public participation on a rolling basis as people arrive in order to solicit ideas from the greatest number of people...They will also solicit community input on alternate solutions such as increased bicycle use, shuttle buses and ferries, and to generate other suggestions."

Two of the meetings will take place in Manhattan and two of them will be in Brooklyn. See below for the full schedule. We'll be there advocating for that weird water tube floating on the surface of the East River.

In Manhattan, the meetings will be:

February 9, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Town and Village Synagogue
334 East 14th Street

and:

February 23, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church

328 West 14th Street.

In Brooklyn, the meetings will be:

February 16, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (next Thursday!)
The Williamsburg HS for Architecture & Design
257 North 6th Street

and:

March 2, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Progress High School
850 Grand Street

Have you been mulling over what you'll do without the L since the closure schedule was made official last summer? Go let the MTA and the DOT know what's been on your mind!
