Queens City Council Member Julie Won has entered the race for New York’s 7th congressional district, joining Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and state Assemblymember Claire Valdez in the field, according to the community newsletter Greenpointers, which highlighted the contest in its Feb. 6 “Greenpoint This Week” roundup. The seat is open because Rep. Nydia Velazquez is retiring, and the candidates are competing ahead of the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary.
The newsletter, published by Greenpointers, did not detail Won’s platform or the full slate of declared candidates in the dispatch, framing her entry as one of several items competing for readers’ attention during a snowed-in stretch in the neighborhood.
Topping the newsletter’s list of things to do, Greenpointers pointed readers to York Work Shop, where it said an ongoing exhibition gathered roughly 400 artifacts from the New York City transit system, collected and documented by photographer Brian Kelley. The newsletter described the collection as the standout local outing of the week; the show was set to run through Feb. 14.
Greenpointers also published guides to Super Bowl Sunday and to Valentine’s Day, the latter pointing to neighborhood activities that the newsletter said include making homemade Valentine’s cards. It encouraged residents weary of the snow to use the guides as a remedy for cabin fever.
On the events calendar, the newsletter flagged the return of Phil Collins Day at Berry Park, which it said was set for the following weekend. Greenpointers characterized the event as a “triumphant return” without elaborating on the program; the gathering went on to mark its 15th year at the Greenpoint bar on Feb. 14.
Elsewhere in the dispatch, Greenpointers noted new merchandise tied to the Jubilee Marketplace and spotlighted Joy Flower Pot, which it described as a new combined coffee and flower shop in the neighborhood.
