Update: Huge, 3-Alarm Fire on Evergreen Avenue in Bushwick Left 7 Families Homeless

138 firefighters and 33 engines and trucks were on the scene in Bushwick battling a large, three-alarm fire Monday afternoon.

The top floor of the three-story building at 428 Evergreen Ave. (right across the street from a public school) went ablaze Monday.

FDNY received an emergency call at 3:34 p.m. and the fire reached third alarm at 3:45 p.m. The fire was under control only after over an hour of work, at 4:56 p.m., even though majority of the fire has been knocked down, and the firefighters were searching for so called hot spots at around 4:55 p.m.

The fire has spread to the neighboring buildings on the left and right.

FDNY reports two minor injuries —to firefighters who were taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

NY 1 reports that following the fire, seven families were left without a shelter and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
