Tom Gallo is the host of Look At My Records! on Radio Free Brooklyn.
Start your 2020 on the right foot with some music in your life. Here’s some of the best shows happening this week:
Wednesday, January 1st
Danny Krivit, Jason Ojeda at Good Room, 6 p.m.
Shake off that hangover and head to the Good Room for two rooms of DJs on New Year’s Day. The 2020 edition of the annual 718 Sessions New Year’s Day Party features special guest Jason Ojeda spinning records in the Bad Room with Danny Krivit helming the wheels of steel in the Good Room.
Thursday, January 2nd
Gustaf at Baby’s All Right, 8 p.m.
Art-punks Gustaf kicks off their 2020 with a highly anticipated monthlong residency at Baby’s All Right on Thursday night. In the time since their formation, the band has built a well-deserved reputation for a high-energy, danceable live show. Arrive early to see some yet to be announced special guests!
Friday, January 3rd
Colleen Green, Unkle Funkle, Free Weed, Cassie Ramone (DJ Set) at Alphavillle, 8 p.m.
Colleen Green is obsessed with Blink-182, so much so in fact, that she released an entire song-by-song cover album of the band’s 1997 classic, Dude Ranch. Her unique take on this pop-punk classic will be front and center on Friday night as Alphaville, as Green will play the entire record cover-to-cover, and probably a few other songs at the tail end of her set. Fellow Los Angeles based musician Uncle Funkle and Free Weed are also on the bill. Cassie Ramone of the recently reunited Vivian Girls will be DJing throughout the evening.
Saturday, January 4th
Duke of Vandal, Shred Flintstone, Darkwing at Our Wicked Lady, 7:30 p.m.
Bloodless Management is wasting no time getting their prime showcases up and running in 2020. Their first one comes just four days into the New Year and features the grunge, occult influenced stylings of Duke of Vandals and the dark lo-fi sounds of Darkwing. New Jersey heavy psych hitters Shred Flintstone will be making their first appearance at Our Wicked Lady and stay tuned, as another band will be added to the bill in the coming days!
