Tom Gallo is the host of Look At My Records! on Radio Free Brooklyn.
Get out and enjoy some great gigs this holiday season. Here are some of the best happening this week:
Thursday, December 12
Tourist, Matthew Dear, Swim Mountain at Avant Gardner, 8 p.m.
London’s Tourist is headlining the Great Hall at Avant Gardner on Thursday night. The electronic artist just released a whirlwind of a new record, Wild, back in October. He’ll be joined by New York-based DJ and experimental pop artist Matthew Dear. Fellow Londoner Swim Mountain will be opening the show, and lucky for us, he just dropped a killer new single entitled “Youth.”
Friday, December 13
Nation of Language, Modern Vices, Hideout at The Broadway, 8 p.m.
Nation of Language are back in the mix after dropping their latest dark and lush single, “The Motorist,” last month. Stop by The Broadway on Friday night to see if they have any more new tunes up their sleeves. Also performing are Chicago’s Modern Vices and local psych-pop duo Hideout.
Saturday, December 14
Pinkie Promise, Henry True, Bug Fight, Kira McSpice, Neko Peoples at Rubulad, 7 p.m.
Local DIY venue and booking collective Hartstop has curated another stellar and diverse lineup for their December showcase at Rubulad. The bill features baroque pop group Pinkie Promise and folk fusion artist Henry True, in addition to two acts from Boston: no-wave act Bug Fight and Kira McSpice. Neko Peoples, an experimental artist who blends elements of surf, industrial, and jazz, is debuting a new single entitled “Mutations” at the gig.
