Happy August! Summer is gradually coming to an end, so this is the time to take advantage of every spectacular day thrown at us. As tough as the urge may be to stay confined at home with your lovely air conditioning, fight those feelings! Go to Rockaway Beach, hang on your rooftops and enjoy some killer shows – because before we know it, these glorious warm days will be a thing of the past as Labor Day slowly but surely approaches. Take these next few weeks and give it all that you got! Grab some friends and take full advantage – because we’re here to help.
#11 Celebrate Brooklyn – tUnE-yArDs, Shabazz Palaces @ Prospect Park Bandshell, 62 West Dr. Prospect Park
Expect to hear ukuleles, drum loops created on the spot and experimental hip-hop. Definitely a solid bill for Celebrate Brooklyn!
#10 Caveman, Rivergazer, The Fluids @ Brooklyn Live at The Flea, 50 Kent Ave. Williamsburg (Sun, 3PM-6PM FREE)
Pretty rad that Brooklyn Flea support musicians as well as artist vendors, so be sure to check out these indie tunes – as you’re debating whether or not to buy that floral vintage suitcase.
#9 Red Bull Sound Select – Vince Staples, Lil Herb, LOAF Muzik @ The Shop, 234 Starr St. Bushwick (Mon, 7PM, $3 RSVP, $10 W/O)
Mondays are a drag – so here’s your excuse to keep your weekend going. Go straight from work – you know you don’t want to miss “Norf Norf.” Quick tip – it’s first come first served based on the venue’s capacity, even with RSVP.
#8 The Do-Over Presented by Serato, The Brooklyn Mirage and Adidas @ Brooklyn Mirage, 99 Scott Ave. East Williamsburg (Sun, 2PM-10PM, FREE W/ RSVP)
The ten-city celebration has made its way to Brooklyn and something tells me you don’t want to miss this. I don’t want to miss this. Past lineups have featured Diplo, Flying Lotus and A-Trak, so it’s safe to say anything is possible.
#7 Caribou and guest Sinkane @ SummerStage, East River Park. (Thurs, 7PM-9PM, FREE)
No plans tonight? Just across the Williamsburg Bridge in East River Park, a massive crowd will be raging. And it’s free. Arrive early and be prepared to get a bit groovy.
#6 – Jamie xx @ Terminal 5, 610 West 56th St (Sat, 9PM, $SOLD OUT)
Ok – I know this show is at Terminal 5, which isn’t exactly ‘Brooklyn.’ However, if you’ve been living under a rock all summer I am here to tell you that Jamie xx’s latest release, In Colour, is one of the best albums of the year. Do yourself a favor and sell a body part or two for a ticket.
#5 – Mad Decent Block Party @ MCU Park, 1904 Surf Ave, Coney Island (Sat, Sun 2PM, $SOLD OUT)
Die Antwoord. Major Lazer. Jack Ü. Tyler, the Creator. Need I say more?! Although both days are now officially sold out, on the Facebook event pages people are selling their tickets. It’s worth a try!
#4 DeFalco Presents with Bushwick Daily + Downeast Cider – Fulaso, Osekre & The Lucky Bastards, TarantinosNYC, DJ Mickey Perez @ Riis Park Beach Bazaar (Sat, 1PM-7PM, FREE)
In collaboration with yours truly! You know how deep our love runs for Rockaway, so join us this Saturday at Riis Park Beach Bazaar. Watch some acts, treat yo’ self to La Newyorkina Mexican Ice Pops and soak up some Vitamin D.
#3 DeFalco Presents with Bushwick Daily + Milagro Tequila – MAKU* Soundsystem, People’s Champs, Laolu & The Afromysterics, DJ Prince of Queens @ Riis Park Beach Bazaar (Sun, 1PM-7PM, FREE)
Don’t stop the fun after Saturday night! We have the beach, volleyball, refreshing eats, vendors and the music all ready. Just grab your friends, take the Bushwick Beach Bus – or even bike if you’re feeling adventurous (and let’s be real, if you want to sweat some alcohol out). Sunday funday indeed.
#2 Mad Decent Block Party After-Party @ Verboten, 54 N 11th St, Williamsburg (Sun, 10PM-5AM, $20)
So you couldn’t get tickets to Mad Decent Block Party. But you know what, you’re still in luck. The after-party lineup as of now is a surprise, but it is extremely likely some of the artists playing on Sunday ‘s bill will be present. Hint – don’t take my word for it, but Skrillex plays an after-party in almost every city he tours to.
#1 Bonobo (DJ Set), Nickodemus, Photay @ Output and Lindsey in The Panter Room, 74 Wythe Ave, Williamsburg (Fri, 10PM-6AM, $20 ABV, $30 DOS)
This lineup is gold and the second release tickets are going fast, hence why it has taken the #1 spot in our Top Music Shows. Expect chillwave eclectic beats from Photay, funky grooves from Nickodemus and a downtempo DJ set from no other than Bonobo. Something tells me there may be visuals and if so, judging from these producers’ experimental aesthetics, you’re in for a wild ride.
