About two weeks ago, we at Bushwick Daily asked you, our readers, to nominate your favorite local pizza places. Altogether, 18 restaurants were nominated. That’s a lot! Is Bushwick the pizza capital of Brooklyn? Ah, that’s a debate for another day.
Anyway, your nominations covered it all. There were places serving classic New York slices and joints offering sit-down fancy pizza experiences. Heck, even square slices made the list!
And last week, we asked you to vote. And you, Bushwick, did not disappoint. Combined, you all voted more than 2,700 times. For that participation, we thank you.
The runners up . . .
Coming in at third place, carrying the bronze medal, with 436 total votes, is Sal’s at 119 Wyckoff Ave. This classic New York pizza joint, on the corner of Wyckoff and Dekalb avenues, is a local favorite and a lunch break staple among those working down the street at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. My tip is, start with the plain slice. It won’t disappoint.
And coming in at second, carrying the silver medal, with 464 total votes, is Norbert’s Pizza at 4 Stuyvesant Ave., at the intersection of Stuyvesant Avenue and Broadway. Norbert’s serves up tasty vegan and vegetarian options. And although it is hard to pass up, pizza isn’t the only thing on Norbert’s menu. The local spot also offers meals like vegan chicken parmesan pasta, pizza bagels, soy-based wings and more!
And . . . drum roll please . . .
The winner of the 2021 Best of Bushwick Best Pizza Competition goes to none other than Tony’s Pizzeria and Restaurant at 443 Knickerbocker Ave. This family-owned restaurant, which has been around since the early 70s, raked in a whopping 1,022 total votes — more than ⅓ of the overall vote.
“We are extremely honored and grateful to Bushwick for not only having nominated Tony’s Pizzeria and Restaurant for having the BEST PIZZA in Bushwick but for now having overwhelmingly won the top spot!” said Salvatore Polizzi, Tony’s manager and one of the brothers. “It’s an amazing feeling especially knowing how dedicated our entire staff is in putting out a quality product on a daily basis. We have worked tirelessly since the early 70s in perfecting our craft. Blood, sweat and tears have been shed. And this recognition is incredibly heartwarming because it acknowledges to a large degree all those years of hard work.”
“We pride ourselves in going above and beyond with everything we do – especially with our hospitality,” Polizzi continued. “Being recognized as the BEST PIZZA spot in Bushwick would not have been possible without the inspiration we continuously receive from our community of supporters day in and day out. We wholeheartedly accept this recognition on behalf of Bushwick as a whole and we tip our proverbial hats to all those who were nominated with us. Every single nominee has challenged us in the past and truly inspires us on a daily basis to do better and be better. Thank you Bushwick. Much love and appreciation. Now come out and try some of Brooklyn’s BEST!!”
