Nowadays Is Re-Opening their Seasonal Beer Garden with Hammocks, an Ice Cream Stand, and Weekly BBQs

After the chilly winter with firepits, heated yurts, and outdoor saunas, beloved Nowadays on the Bushwick-Ridgewood border is finally ready for the warm weather and is re-opening their summer beer garden on Thursday, May 9, that will be open seven days a week.

The backyard space will now have hammocks, amongst other goodies like new food stands. Nowadays will be welcoming Republic of Booza, a weekends-only ice cream cart, with stretchy texture. Their concept is “historical,” recreating what they deem the first recipes of the frozen treat. Want savory instead? A food stand from Casino Italian hot dog, a reincarnation of the cult-classic sandwich from Trenton, NJ, will be joining the space, too!

There will be a new happy hour as well, on weeknights from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can enjoy their new natural wine program featuring refreshing white and rosé wines from Bauer estate in Boston, and Austrian red wines from Meinklang. An expansion of the Evil Twin pop-up taproom will open in the outdoor area as well, with eight craft beer lines with special weekly beers on tap.

If this doesn’t already sound like perfection, Nowadays’ director of hospitality, Henry Rich, of Rucola and Metta in Brooklyn, will introduce a new outdoor food menu from the backyard food truck. Offerings include roasted pork shoulder, chicken leg confit sandwiches and vegetarian-friendly options like hummus wraps, cabbage salad and grilled corn. Each Saturday, the backyard will host a BBQ and a ping pong tournament, featuring dry-rubbed pork ribs and oak- and sugar-maple-smoked beef brisket.

Their infamous day party Mister Sunday will make a comeback on Sunday, May 12.

Need something more for the soul? Nowadays is planning a selection of programs and events focusing on mindfulness, culture, and education. Body Music Therapy sessions will be led indoors on select weeknights by Kiki Eberhardt, focusing on the symbiotic relationship between kundalini yoga, guided meditation and music. The first one is May 14. Think Olio: An organization dedicated to presenting classes on culture, philosophy, science and the arts, will be hosted indoors once a month. H.I.P. Lit: a monthly literary series focused on collective learning spotlights emerging authors starting on Thursday, May 22.
