What do a grilled cheese bistro, Cuban cafe, and thrift store have in common? They’re all operated by the same guy who runs The Acres BBQ, a new barbeque spot that opened on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood last Friday.

Danny Teran, known as the “Wolf of Wilson” who opened The WheelhouseMillie’s Cuban Cafe, and Albert & Sons thrift shop, wants to restore barbecue glory to Ridgewood with The Acres, which inherited both its meat smoker and address from the The Dish —  the former BBQ place at 57-42 Myrtle Ave.

“We were inspired by the fact that The Dish served really great BBQ, among other things, but we really wanted to further focus on smoking meats, and bringing awesome BBQ to the Halsey area,” Danny told Bushwick Daily. “Albert [my brother] and I really love food and the challenge of taking on new cuisines.”

Some highlights of that cuisine are the Burnt End Brisket Nachos, six flavors of smoked wings, and dixie-inspired cocktails. A brunch menu is in the works.

Danny and his brother Albert started off in the restaurant business, owning food trucks together in Manhattan. They stopped collaborating when Albert went into corporate cooking, while Danny went on to start The Watson Group — a retail and hospitality company with a focus on food. Now reunited in the workplace, Albert handles the menu and the kitchen; Danny takes care of administrative business. Jordan Schlenker, the Terans’ longtime business partner, makes sure everything else runs smoothly.

“We’re really just artists, and this is our slightly unconventional canvas,” said Schlenker. “Danny is the visionary, and we really helped execute his image for the layout of the restaurant.”

Events at The Acres include Tuesday night trivia, Wheelhouse-inspired Wine Down Wednesday’s, and different musical guests.
