The building of the former Ridgewood Theater is getting a Blink Fitness gym.

Signs for the gym chain went up recently on the front and back of the building earlier this month.

The Ridgewood Theater closed March of 2008 and was one of the longest running theaters in the borough. It was open and running for a little over 90 years. The facade is landmarked and cannot be changed, but the inside was gutted developed into housing units that were advertised for sale in 2016. Prices started at $2,300 a month.

For a while after the theater closed, longtime residents did their best to stop the building from being purchased and turned into condos.

In 2017, resident Anthony Arroyo was interviewed in a Bushwick Daily post for trying to money funds on GoFundMe “for an ambitious project to rent the ground level commercial space at the Ridgewood Theatre (55-27 Myrtle Ave.), and open there a community-focused performing arts space.”

There’s no information on when the Blink gym will open up yet, we will be putting together a post once there’s an update.
