Cup of Brooklyn Is Launching a Coffee-Based Cosmetics Line Just in Time for the Holidays

Cup of Brooklyn, the cozy coffee shop which opened in August on the Bed-Stuy side of Broadway at Gates Avenue, is expanding its offerings to include skin care products and candles made with their delicious, fresh Devocion coffee beans.

Co-owners Agnieszka and John Palladino describe the new product line as the result of a serendipitous encounter in which local maker named Charlene Darko came into the shop for some coffee beans. She came back with a candle, body scrub, and face scrub made with the beans. “I started to use it with my husband,” Agnieszka says, “and we both loved it, so we decided to make a full line with our beans.”

While it’s always hard to prove the benefits of coffee- whether it’s ingested or slathered on your body- some anecdotal evidence suggests coffee scrubs improve circulation, decrease cellulite, and are anti-inflammatory.

We already drink enough of it; might as well cover our faces and bodies with the stuff, just in case. The jury is still out on whether or not we can recreate the same results with yesterday’s french press coffee grounds.

Because the Cup of Brooklyn crew uses some of the freshest coffee beans available, they believe the beans make the most potent scrubs and scents. As an added bonus, the line of products, made fresh weekly, are all organic.

Prices range from four to $20, making any of these products perfect gifts for Secret Santas and stocking stuffers.
