Whether you’re a sweater weather person or more of a leather weather person, the season for layering up is officially upon us. While the cozy factor is still novel, make plans to go get a flu shot—you’ll be happy you did when the deep chill sets in and you start sharing the subway with sneezing straphangers on the daily.
Here are a few local pharmacies that offer flu shots—stop in and thank them later!
Walgreen’s:
Flu shots at Walgreen’s cost $31.99 (less if covered by your insurance), and for every flu shot administered, Walgreen’s donates a small amount to the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign. There are three locations around the area:
755 Broadway, across from Woodhull Medical Center off of the J and the M;
1366 Broadway, off of the Gates stop on the J;
And there a Walgreen’s-owned Duane Reade at 5411 Myrtle Ave, off of the Myrtle-Wyckoff stop on the L and the M.
Rite Aid
Bushwick’s Knickerbocker Avenue Rite Aid might be the Bushwick’s most central pharmacy, but there’s a second Rite Aid location off of the Halsey Street stop on the J train, if that’s nearer your place. Flu shots there are $32.99 before insurance. Here are those two addresses:
355 Knickerbocker Avenue, near the Knickerbocker Avenue stop on the M and the DeKalb Avenue stop on the L;
960 Halsey Street, off of the Halsey Street stop on the J.
CVS:
The Myrtle-Wyckoff CVS at 329-339 Wyckoff Ave offers flu shots for $39.99 before insurance. Work your shot in around your schedule next time you swing by Key Foods or Planet Fitness.
Call ahead to see whether your insurance can help you get your shot for cheap—and of course, while the big box retailers have streamlined flu shot systems and don’t require appointments, check with your doctor and your nearest mom and pop pharmacy to see if you might be able to score a shot that way, too. Central Ave Pharmacy, between Menahan Street and Grove Street is committed to offering flu shots at prices that can compete with the big boxes while their supplies last; your corner place might be able to do this, too!
