The midterm elections are on Tuesday November 2018.
It has been one of the most contested midterm elections in a long time. A significant number of women and people of color have started running. And despite the usual low voter turnout in NYC and the United States as a whole compared to other developed nations, registration and early voting records across the country according to reports in CNN and NPR.
Many on social media, including local politicians like Nydia Velázquez have been calling for a #bluewave of progressive politics and for young people to vote:
Staying informed and involved is a great way to build community and also it tends to increase voter turnout. Here are a few events in and near Bushwick to consider attending for election night:
NBK DSA Election Night Watch Party at Starr Bar
November 6, 2018 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
NYC Democratic Socialists of America will be holding an election watch party at Starr Bar to celebrate Julia Salazar’s campaign and to see the election results. It’s right by the L train and a convenient party to drop into.
2018 Midterm Election Night Watch Party at Bushwick Berners HQ
November 6, 2018 6:01 p.m. – 1:01 a.m.
The Bushwick Berners, a group that fervently supports Bernie Sanders, is holding a watch party at their headquarters. Everyone who attends should BYOB and some food for the long night ahead.
New Kings Democrats Election Night Watch Party at C’mon Everybody
November 6, 2018 8:30 p.m. – 12 a.m.
Like the DSA, New Kings Democrats are a progressive Brooklyn based group that ramped up its’ efforts after the 2016 elections. They help out grassroots efforts to educate people about policy and grassroots organizing throughout the borough.
Election Night Watch Party at Burnside
November 6, 2018 at 6 p.m.
Another convenient north Brooklyn location for a watch party is in Williamsburg. Burnside will be playing MSNBC all night long and anyone who has an “I Voted” sticker will get happy hour prices until 8 p.m.
Mid Term Election Party 2018 at Pine Box Rock Shop
November 6, 2018 at 8 p.m.
Neighborhood favorite, Pine Box Rock Shop will have the election results on with sound and ‘themed cocktails’ as the results come in.
Election Night Watch Party at Heavy Woods
November 6, 2018 at 2 p.m.
There will be drinking, Steve Kornacki-ing , drinking more…and watching the results.
First 30 peeps with an “I Voted” sticker gets a free Brugal 1888 drink. There will be 2 big screens and quadrophonic sound in the back room.
