Senator Martin Dilan released a statement about the September 13 primary results late last week.

“Ms. Salazar has shown great resolve throughout the campaign and I applaud her tenacity,” he said through the press release. “That courage is not typical. It will no doubt come in handy in Albany. I look forward to working with Ms. Salazar and ensuring a smooth transition. I congratulate her and wish her all the best this November, and beyond.”

Dilan has been a North Brooklyn Senator as a Democrat for eight terms, he was running for his ninth term this year. Community organizer and Democratic Socialist Julia Salazar won the election.

In his statement, Dilan also said that he was proud to have served Bushwick, the neighborhood was raised in, and where his parents ran a small business.

“I’ve had the opportunity to do what I’ve wanted to do since I was a teenager, serve my community. I may have lost the primary to represent it as a loyal Democrat, but I will never lose my love of community,” he said. “I’m compelled to fight for a Democratic Majority in the State Senate, and I look forward to working in November to help my colleagues.”
