In the spirit of sustainability, GrowNYC is hosting a free Stop 'N' Swap at the Williamsburg Community Center this Sunday. Stop by to drop off clean, portable, reusable items (clothes, books, toys,  housewares, electronics) or pick up a few items for yourself. No one is required to bring something to take something—you can simply show up with a bag and see what’s free for the taking. It's a first come, first served basis, so arrive early!

The Stop 'N' Swap will take place this Sunday, August 30 from 12-3 p.m. in East Williamsburg and is organized by local non-profit GrowNYC. According to the press release, an increasing demand for these events has led GrowNYC to set a goal of hosting one Stop ‘N’ Swap in each of the city’s 59 community districts each year.

“Brooklyn communities are some of the most enthusiastic participants in Stop ‘N’ Swaps. We look forward to seeing familiar faces at the event, as well as first-timers experiencing the joy of seeing their goods go to new homes, or taking home useful items at no cost,” said David Hurd, the Director of GrowNYC’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education.

“Stop ‘N’ Swaps keep reusable items from ending up in a landfill and prevent the waste that comes from the production, packaging and transportation required to get new things,” said GrowNYC Executive Director Marcel Van Ooyen. “We’re helping to reduce the city’s carbon footprint by facilitating reuse and encouraging waste reduction.”

Anything leftover from the day is donated or recycled. Keep in mind, furniture or other large items are not permitted at the swap.

The Williamsburg Community Center is located 195 Graham Ave (enter at corner of Scholes St).
