"House of Esther," a Biblically-Inspired Performance With a Hot Dance Party After, Happens Tonight

An interactive theater experience tonight in East Williamsburg will bring you into the home of one of history’s "most famous femme fatales" for a cool performance and then — of course — a hot dance party.

"The House of Esther," happening tonight at 8 p.m. at The Paper Box, tells the tale of Queen Esther, a biblical heroine who saved the Jewish people by resisting her misguided husband, the King of Persia, and his evil subordinate, Haman.

The audience will follow Esther through six different scenes, which feature immersive, interactive vignettes. Directed by Sandler Gera, the hour-long performance features an original soundscape and a cast of crazy, paper-costume wearers.

The performance is inspired by the Jewish holiday of Purim, which celebrates Esther's triumph over the Persians and the deliverance of the Jews from their subjugators. This year, Purim began at sundown on Feb. 28 and ends tonight.

If the pics above don't have you convinced, a spokeswoman from National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, which is sponsoring the event, assures us that the event is completely open to everyone. There will be Purim-inspired cocktails like Queens Landing, Paper Cut, and HuntsHaman; and, to repeat, there will be a hot dance party. Check out the action from last night.

Venue details: The Paper Box, 17 Meadow St., Brooklyn (L Train to Grand St. or Montrose Av.) Tickets are $25 online // $30 at the door.
