A Fire Department arson investigation into a fire that ripped through a Bushwick Avenue home and required a 12-unit, 60-firefighter response early Saturday morning has determined that the blaze was caused by “careless discard of smoking materials.”

According to officials, residents of 718 Bushwick Ave (on the corner of Bushwick Ave and Hart Street) were awoken shortly after 3am on Saturday, March 19th when a fire, which the New York Daily News reports started at the main entrance to the building, spread quickly.

The incident was under control before 4am, no injuries were reported, and the building does not appear to have been issued a vacate order.
