There are some pretty awesome events coming to Bushwick and Ridgewood this week. One will discuss gentrification and highlight art and poetry created by longtime residents, another will be an art closing, and you’ll get to re-watch a cult classic.

Don’t miss out on having fun without having to go to far this weekend:

National Rum Day Happy Hour at Paradise Lounge

Thursday August 16, 2018 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

August 16th is National Rum Day, so Owney’s Rum, which is bottled and sold in Brooklyn, is holding a happy hour in Ridgewood. There will be $6 daiquiris and $8 Owney’s Rum drink specials all night long. Support a local business and a local bar with an eventful thirsty Thursday.

Bock Brick Benefit at The Deep End

Thursday August 16, 2018 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

There’s been no end to the news of immigrants being detained at the border and separated from family members under the current administration’s zero tolerance policy. To help raise funds for Immigrant Families Together, artist Ryan Bock (Bockhaus) is installing a wall made of painted bricks. Patrons can buy the individual bricks until the wall is lowered. Help keep families together, purchase art and sip some drinks all at the same time.
