The Friends of Greenpoint Library will hold their annual Fall Book Sale this weekend at the Greenpoint Library, 107 Norman Ave. at Leonard St., to raise money for the branch’s arts, cultural and environmental programs. The sale runs Saturday, September 26 from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday, September 27 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The sale offers books for kids, teens and adults, along with a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses. Proceeds support special arts, cultural and environmental public programs at the Greenpoint Library across all ages. No book donations will be accepted on the day of the sale.
The Friends of Greenpoint Library is a group of organized volunteers who help the neighborhood branch through advocacy, fundraising and promotion. The branch, officially the Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center, is a 15,000-square-foot building with a gardened reading deck, a rooftop demonstration garden and separate adult, young adult and children’s reading rooms.
At the group’s fall sale in 2024, books sold for one dollar each and shoppers could enter raffles or buy a printed tote bag showing a painting of the library, made by Greenpoint artist Steve Wasterval, for twenty dollars, the Queens Ledger reported. Raffle prizes that year included a fifty-dollar gift card to The WonderMart, a two-hundred-fifty-dollar gift card to Subversive Tattoo and a one-month pass to East River Pilates, according to the Queens Ledger. That was the group’s second annual fall book sale, the Queens Ledger reported.
The Friends collect second-hand books from the community in the weeks before each sale and organize them by genre on the library’s second floor. For this year’s sale, the group accepted donations of books in new or near-new condition, with no textbooks, magazines or damaged books, Greenpointers reported.
